Important news about Bournemouth Gateway Club and The Embassy Centre

We have some exciting news to share.

 

Key points

  • The Embassy Centre will close for refurbishment from Wednesday 5 August to Friday 4 September.
  • During this time, Bournemouth Gateway Club will meet at Winton Methodist Church Hall.
  • Club activities will continue as usual.

In April, we took over the running of The Embassy Centre from BCP Council. This is called a community asset transfer.

The Embassy Centre needs a lot of work doing to it. We are now ready to start stage 1 of this refurbishment work.

We will have:

  • new flooring
  • a new ceiling
  • new lights
  • a new kitchen
  • new heating and cooling
  • new decoration in Bournemouth Gateway Club colours

Where we will be meeting while The Embassy is closed 

From Wednesday 5 August to Friday 4 September, The Embassy Centre will be closed for refurbishment work.

During the refurbishment, Bournemouth Gateway Club will meet at:

Winton Methodist Church Hall
Heron Court Road
Bournemouth
BH9 1DE

This is the large church on the corner, next to Linwood School on Alma Road.

Getting there

Buses near Winton Methodist Church
These buses stop near Alma Road or Heron Court Road: 5, N5, 20 and Unibus U3.

Buses to Charminster
These buses go to Charminster. From there, it is a short walk up Alma Road: M1, N1 and 736.

Taxis and parking
If you come by taxi, the taxi can drop you off at the side of the building on Heron Court Road.

There is 1 hour parking outside the building on Heron Court Road. There is also all-day parking around Winton Recreation Ground.

What will happen at club

We will still have our usual activities, including:

  • arts and crafts
  • music
  • games
  • news group
  • walks, games and sports at Winton Recreation Ground.

There is a corner shop nearby. We suggest you bring a packed lunch, as the shop may not have as much choice as Tesco and may cost more.

There is also a café at Winton Recreation Ground.

What to bring

  • Please bring a packed lunch. We will offer tea/coffee and squash as usual.
  • Please bring any support items you need during the day.
  • Please bring your bus pass, travel pass or taxi money if you need it.
  • Please bring a coat or sun cream and hat etc depending on the weather for if we go to Winton Recreation Ground.

Accessibility and support

We will do our best to make sure everyone is supported at Winton Methodist Church.

There is step-free access via the large doors on the corner and an accessible toilet in the hall. 

Arriving and going home

Please arrive and leave at your usual times, unless we have agreed something different with you.

Taxis and lifts should use the side of the building on Heron Court Road for drop-off and pick-up.

Timetable for July

Wednesday 22 July, Thursday 23 July and Friday 24 July
We will be at Redhill Park. Usual hours – meet behind the café. Please dress for the weather and bring drinks. Either meet us there or come to club as usual and we will walk to Redhill together. We will return by 2.45 pm

Saturday 25 July
We will be at The Embassy Centre as usual. It will be an arts and crafts and skittles night.

Wednesday 29 July, Thursday 30 July and Friday 31 July
We will be at The Embassy Centre as usual.
